Legal proceedings are expensive, can take years to resolve and outcomes are uncertain. Settling a dispute through mediation avoids the build up and risk of costs that have to be paid in litigation; it considers the underlying needs and interests of the participants first to achieve justice and fairness; participants are in control of the outcome, rather than having a decision imposed upon them by a judge. Mediation is the better alternative.
